Akon debuts anti-slavery song

Hip hop star Akon has debuted a song to remember victims of the slave trade. The song, ‘Blood into Gold’, received its first play at the United Nations headquarters in New York, on the international day of remembrance of the victims of slavery.
The single from multi chart topping Akon, is a collaboration with musician Peter Buffett. All proceeds from the release will go to an organisation dedicated to educate and bring to an end human trafficking worldwide.
Akon has been outspoken about the injustices within Africa, he set up the Konfidence Foundation aimed at helping underprivileged children. In addition as a co-owner of a South African diamond mine, he maintains the ethics of the operation and donates a share of the profits to the local communities.
