NERD's Pharrell Williams has been named by Esquire Magazine, as one of the world's "Best Dressed Men" for two years in a row - but the producer, singer and Billionaire Boys Club designer wasn't always so flashy.
"When I was 17, I had a scooter and that was my Rolls-Royce... My scooter was a Honda Elite and it was black. And you couldn't tell me anything about it because I thought it was the coolest thing ever." Pharrell says on Saturday's episode of ‘When I Was 17' on MTV.
"He couldn't afford a car, so he got the next best thing," his N.E.R.D. band mate Shay explained.
One half of American hip-hop duo Clipse; Pusha T, remembers riding around with his friend on the two-wheeler. "He'd come and pick me up on this scooter, and we'd ride everywhere throughout the city," the Virginia born rapper said of his and Pharrels routine.
The pair would venture over to their local 7-Eleven convenience store, as this was a favorite of the Grammy-winning producer.
"For us, at least, it was the place to be," Pharrell said. "Do you understand what the 7-Eleven Big Gulp was? The 7-Eleven Big Gulp was Moët. But a Slurpee? [That] was Cristal,"
Bless!
This week's ‘When I Was 17', featuring Pharrell Williams, airs on Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.
