Dannii Minogue reportedly had to ditch her plans to give birth at home after a health scare.

The X Factor judge was meant to deliver the baby in her East Melbourne home, but complications at the beginning of the birth meant that she had to be rushed to the Royal Women's Hospital as a precaution.

Dannii and her partner Kris Smith waited 2 days to announce the arrival of their first child, Ethan Edward Smith and made the official announcement yesterday morning.

A source told the Daily Star; "It was touch and go for a while but thankfully it all worked out fine."

Kylie Minogue, Dannii's older sister was apparently kept up to date with the birth, as she promoted her latest album Aphrodite in Ibiza.

Dannii's spokesperson confirmed that both mother and baby well and doing ok although no further details have been released.

Kris and Dannii aren't the only new parents this week, as director Sam Taylor Wood (43) and her actor fiancé Aaron Johnson (20) have just had their first child; a little girl named Wylda Rae.
